What Does a Family Health Coach Do?
A Family Health Coach will come in and look at the situation independently and objectively and then ascertain based on your feedback what area you would like to start working on. There are several factors that help guide this such as the following:
-
Does your child have a diagnosis?
-
Is your child currently in therapy?
-
What exactly do you want to accomplish during our time together?
-
Are you open to making dietary changes and if so, how slow or fast do you want to go?
-
Are you open to making lifestyle changes for the family?
The First Steps…
First things first. It’s super important to understand that a Family Health Coach wants to establish a connection with the whole family first by having open communication and honesty for all involved. Active listening is a skill the Family Health Coach needs to be doing to show that each individual is a unique piece of the dynamic family unit.
Then, we will discuss goal setting. Setting S.M.A.R.T. (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound) goals for you and your family will ensure that we make progress.
Next…
We will work on overcoming barriers, whether that be time constraints, financial constraints or emotional constraints, we will conquer them together .
Making a Family Plan
This is where we develop the best plan for your family. Each family is unique which means each family plan is unique. Highly personalized and just right for YOU.
How Long Will We Work Together?
I get this question all the time. People want to know how long this will all take. In order to see effective changes that you and your family can stick with, it’s important to work with someone for at least 3 months. After that, if you feel like you’ve got this down, then we can meet just on an as needed basis to clarify things or give a new idea a chance.
An Investment into Your Family’s Health
When you invest in a Family Health Coach, you are investing in your family’s future health and emotional well being as well. We are trained to coach you on the best ways to support your family. When you have a family member with ADHD, it effects everyone in the family, so think of this as a gift to your family.
